East Brunswick Fire District # 1 is one of three fire districts that protect the Township of East Brunswick, New Jersey. Our response area is a total of ten square miles. The Department is currently made up of sixty volunteer members that respond out of three stations. We respond to all types of emergencies including but not limited to Structural Fires, Brush Fires, Motor Vehicle Accidents, Extrications, Carbon Monoxide Alarms, Fire Alarms, Haz- Mats, and Water Rescues.

The Board of Fire Commissioners of East Brunswick Fire District # 1, East Brunswick Twp N.J. is accepting bids for their used 1999 GMC command vehicle.  Arrangements can be made to view the vehicle by contacting Deputy Chief Joseph Kotora @ 848-565-1952. Minimum opening bid has been set as $ 6000.00. All bids must be returned to the Board of Fire Commissioners Business office located at 680 Old Bridge Turnpike, East Brunswick N.J. 08816  no later then 5PM October 7, 2008. Bids will be opened at the monthly commissioners meeting on Tuesday October 7, 2008 at 7:30 PM.

Petzl EXO Personal Safety System Bailout Drill

On Saturday August 9th, 2008 Eighteen members reported to the Middlesex County Fire Academy to receive training on the new Petzl EXO Personal Safety System.  All the members were outfitted for a Gemtor harness and the Petzl EXO Personal Safety System.  The class was taught by Fire Ground Technologies led by Instructor Larry Cohen.  After doing ten bailouts all the members were confident in using the Petzl system.  The members would like to thank Larry Cohen and his staff for a very informative class.  For more information on the Petzl EXO Personal Safety System  check out www.firegroundtech.com

 
   
   
 
Working Fire On Harrison Ave

At 03:43 East Brunswick Fire District #1 was dispatched for a possible structure fire at 7 Harrison Ave.  Patrol arrived and advised headquarters that there was a heavy smoke condition.  Shortly after Chief Prinzo arrived and confirmed that there was a fire on the 2nd floor of 2 story single family dwelling.  Chief Prinzo advised 1st due engine 702 to lay-in from the hydrant at Main and Harrison.  Deputy Chief Kotora arrived and took operations command.  The crew from 702 stretched 200 feet of the 1 ¾ pre-connect to the second floor and quickly knocked down the fire.  Truck 709 and Engine 707 arrived and assisted with ventilation.   Assistant Safety Officer Palmer assisted with interior accountability while Safety Officer Hoover and Assistant Safety Officer Brown assisted with accountability and rehab. East Brunswick Fire District #2 responded to the scene and stood by as the FAST team while South Old Bridge stood by at the Pine St Fire House.  The crews from 702, 707, and 709 overhauled the fire room and were back in service at 05:55. The fire is currently under investigation by the East Brunswick Fire District#1 Fire Marshall's Office. 1 CAR MVA WITH ENTRAPMENT

At 11:57 East Brunswick Fire District #1 was dispatched to Route 18 South and Hillsdale for the MVA with entrapment.  Upon arrival, Deputy Chief Kotora advised that there was a 1 car MVA with 1 person trapped.  Deputy Chief Kotora immediately special called a rescue to the scene from South Old Bridge due to Rescue 704 being out for service.  The crew from South Old Bridge assisted with performing a dash roll in order to free the patient's feet which were heavily entrapped underneath the dash.  The patient was out of the vehicle around 12:35 and turned over to EMS.  All units were back in service at 13:00.

 
   
   
 
Car Into The Woods With 3 Injuries

At 01:42 East Brunswick Fire District 1 was dispatched to Rues Lane in the area of Catholic Charities for the car into the woods with 3 injuries.  Deputy Chief  Kotora arrived and advised that there was a car approximately 150 feet into the woods and that all occupants were out of the vehicle.  Shortly after Rescue 704 and Engine 706 arrived along with Chief Prinzo and Safety Officer Hoover.  The crews from Rescue 704 and Engine 706 secured the battery to the car, assisted with lighting and tree removal.  2 ALS and 1 BLS patients were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.  Logan’s towing removed the car from the woods and all units were back in service at 2:45.

3RD ALARM SCHOOL FIRE

At 16:45 a general alarm was dispatched for a working structure fire at Memorial School off of Innes Rd.  Upon arrival, heavy fire and smoke conditions were showing near the back of the school. Command quickly called for a 2nd alarm and within several minutes was upgraded to a 3rd alarm. The fire was placed under control in about 45 minutes. The  cause of the fire is under investigation.


 
 
3RD ALARM FIRE IN SOUTH OLD BRIDGE

At 23:00 East Brunswick Fire District 1 was dispatched for 1 Engine to the scene of a structure fire at 316 Texas Road brining Engine 706 to the scene along with Chief Prinzo and Assistant Safety Officer Palmer. South Old Bridge units arrived with a fully involved house fire with heavy fire conditions. Neighbors reported hearing an explosion which was possibly caused by the propane that supplied the house. The crew from 706 assisted with overhaul and went back in service at 04:30.

BENEFIT FOR FIREFIGHTER LUKOWSKI

On Friday May 30th come out and help Tommie Lukowski with his battle against Bone Cancer. Come for dinner, raffles, and massages,hosted at the St. Bartholomew's Parish Hall on Ryders Lane in East Brunswick,NJ. Adults $10, Children 12 and under $6. All proceeds will go to the Tommie Lukowski Special fund.

 
 
2ND ALARM STRUCTURE FIRE IN SPOTSWOOD

Around 2300 EBFD1 was dispatched for a FAST team to Spotswood for a structure fire on main st. Upon arrival assistant safety officer Palmer advised that command needed additional manpower sending engine 702 to the scene. 707 arrived and acted as the fast team while 702 laid 800 ft of supply line into Monroe's ladder 51. 702s crew then assisted with ventilation and fire suppression. The crew from 707 was also put to work to assist with ventilation. Shortly after truck 709 was called to the scene and set up on the Charlie Delta corner to assist. All units took up and were back in service around 0200.

 
 
MAYDAY DRILL

On Sunday five members were able to attend the Mayday drill at South Old Bridge Engine One. After participation in the hands on course and lecture the members were able to have a better understanding of mayday procedures. The members would like to thank the South Old Bridge Fire Company for allowing us to train with them and strongly recommend all member to attend this drill. DRYER FIRE IN DISTRICT 3

A general alarm was struck at 0800 after Brookview assistant chief arrived on a 1 story ranch with a heavy smoke condition. Truck 709 an Engine 702 along with Deputy Chief Kotora and Asst Safety Officer Palmer responded to the scene. The Fire was contained to the dryer area. The crew from 702 assisted with positive pressure ventilation and took up from the scene shortly after.

2ND ALARM FIRE ON DUNHAMS CORNER ROAD

Around 2300 a general alarm was struck for a fire in dist 3's area bringing Engine 707 702 and Truck 709 to the scene. The vacant house was fully involved upon arrival leading to a defensive operation. Engine 707 laid a supply line into Engine 806 while the crew from 702 helped set up a supply line to Brookview's engine. The crews from 707 and 709 assisted with ventilation and suppression. All units took up and were back in service at 0300.

STRUCTURE COLLAPSE - GONDER COURT

On Saturday March 8th we were inundated with fire calls due to a severe storm that produced high winds. Of the 17 fire calls we ran in approximately three hours, one of those calls was for the reported structure collapse on Gonder Court. Lt. Casterline arrived to find what was left of a 3,000 sq ft. framed out house being built. Fire fighters check the area to make sure there was nobody trapped. The area was taped off with yellow caution tape and fire units cleared the scene to respond to some of the 16 other pending calls.
